Brookwood Pottery Presidential Commission

I was delighted to be asked to make a piece for the Young Innovators Group from Kilbarrack to present to President Michael D. Higgins at a special reception in the Aras this February. The reception was to celebrate and acknowledge a fantastically successful community festival in Father Matthew Collins park last summer organised by these youth leaders.

Young Innovators Group present President Michael D Higgins with
specially commissioned work "January, Phoenix Park" February,  2014.

This specially commissioned piece January, Phoenix Park is made from white earthenware clay and colourful underglazes. I often incorporate foliage and flowers in my ceramic artworks and I made a special trip to the Phoenix Park to collect foliage for this piece. January is a bleak but beautiful time in nature and I found some beautiful hanging buds and dried flowers from the recent summer by the duck pond near the Peoples' Park. I wanted to capture the filigree of these plants against the muted January colours of brown, rust red and earth tones. I have always loved the delicate patterns these bare branches make against the skyline.

Brookwood Pottery Christmas Trading Hours

Well it's been a really busy Christmas and so far I've done Killester Craft Fair, the Botanic Gardens Christmas Fair and a corporate fair in town. It's been great fun, hard work and lovely to meet the customers face to face! In the last few days running up to Christmas I'll be trading 24 - 7 basically!!

There are 3 ways to get some handthrown totally Irish and homegrown pottery from me in the last few days before Christmas:

Cow's Lane Designer Studio, Cow's Lane Temple Bar: I've brought new stock into the shop and reduced my prices to try and match my market stall prices..... They're open every day right up to and including Christmas eve..

Cow's Lane Designer Mart - This Saturday (December 21st) is my last market day but the weather outside is frightful so kinda worried it won't go ahead - If it does I'll be there in my 735 layers of clothing from 10 am to 5 pm..

From my House or by E mail - That's right ...it's a Brookwood Pottery Pop Up Shop In Artane, Dublin 5 right in my living room - I have framed work for 49 euro, vases, beautiful bowls and free Christmas decoration with each gift...Alternatively you can e mail me with any last minute orders..

Happy Christmas and a very Big Thank You for all of your support in 2013...

New Framed Work in Cow's Lane Design Studio

I've really been enjoying doing some flat work on clay recently. The following are low fired earthenware clay works with a combination of underglazes and ceramic crayon marks.

Autumn Bog, 2013, 50 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes.

Autumn Bog was based on foliage collected in the Girley Bog, Kells. Co. Meath. (that's the name honestly!). It has a beautiful raised bog and loop walk which is around 6 kilometres long, a lovely day out for the family as they say! This is currently in Cow's Lane Design Studio, Dublin, 169 euro.

Summer Meadow, 2013, 50 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes. 169 euro. SOLD

Yellow Meadow2013, 25 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes. 68euro. SOLD
