Brookwood Pottery Christmas Trading Hours

Well it's been a really busy Christmas and so far I've done Killester Craft Fair, the Botanic Gardens Christmas Fair and a corporate fair in town. It's been great fun, hard work and lovely to meet the customers face to face! In the last few days running up to Christmas I'll be trading 24 - 7 basically!!

There are 3 ways to get some handthrown totally Irish and homegrown pottery from me in the last few days before Christmas:

Cow's Lane Designer Studio, Cow's Lane Temple Bar: I've brought new stock into the shop and reduced my prices to try and match my market stall prices..... They're open every day right up to and including Christmas eve..

Cow's Lane Designer Mart - This Saturday (December 21st) is my last market day but the weather outside is frightful so kinda worried it won't go ahead - If it does I'll be there in my 735 layers of clothing from 10 am to 5 pm..

From my House or by E mail - That's right ...it's a Brookwood Pottery Pop Up Shop In Artane, Dublin 5 right in my living room - I have framed work for 49 euro, vases, beautiful bowls and free Christmas decoration with each gift...Alternatively you can e mail me with any last minute orders..

Happy Christmas and a very Big Thank You for all of your support in 2013...

New Framed Work in Cow's Lane Design Studio

I've really been enjoying doing some flat work on clay recently. The following are low fired earthenware clay works with a combination of underglazes and ceramic crayon marks.

Autumn Bog, 2013, 50 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes.

Autumn Bog was based on foliage collected in the Girley Bog, Kells. Co. Meath. (that's the name honestly!). It has a beautiful raised bog and loop walk which is around 6 kilometres long, a lovely day out for the family as they say! This is currently in Cow's Lane Design Studio, Dublin, 169 euro.

Summer Meadow, 2013, 50 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes. 169 euro. SOLD

Yellow Meadow2013, 25 x 25 cms, earthenware clay and underglazes. 68euro. SOLD

Brookwood Pottery now in Cow's Lane Design Studio, Temple Bar.

Hi everyone and many apologies for the delay in updating my blog. Things have been very busy with commissions, markets, retailing and making! But I have been enjoying every minute of it. It was a real thrill to get my first retail space with the designers and makers of Cow's Lane Design Studio, Temple Bar. I've been selling bowls, jugs and night lights in there with some framed work and it's been going great.

Also I've been working away at the market every Saturday, converting the masses to colourful ceramics and enjoying that, I've been trying to sell smaller items like brooches and mugs as the feedback is that tourists don't want to carry the big stuff- bah!! Ryanair!!

Lastly I've done some wedding commissions and my first commercial commission for Brady's Butchers in Fairview which was challenging and forced me to push myself. I was pleased with the results and hope to get more of this type of work. So if I don't see you at the Saturday Designer Mart in Temple Bar, Cow's Lane, have a great summer and keep an eye on my Facebook page which I update regularly with quick shots of new work..look for Brookwood Pottery

Mother's Day Gifts at Brookwood Pottery

Mother & Child, Ceramic artwork, earthenware clay, underglazed and twice fired.

Hi there if you're looking for a special Mother's Day gift I have made a small number of these ceramic artworks based on a favourite card I received many years ago on the birth of my first daughter. So this work is firmly inspired by Picasso! It comes framed in 2 sizes small - 39 euro, larger piece 49 euro. I can also customise the inscription in pencil underneath. Each artwork is signed by me.

This would make a beautiful christening gift also as it is a very tender, joyful image.

And hey if you are skint don't worry - I am making adorable ceramic brooches for 4.95 and 6.95 which I can post easily. Happy Mother's Day to all, past and present. Best wishes, Elaine.

Bricks in the Rain - Ceramic Exhibition

Hi Everyone, There is a fantastic ceramic exhibition running in the Culture Box Temple Bar until 25 Feb, I would really encourage you to go and look at the work both for ideas and inspiration. The exhibition is based on a group of ceramic artists that travelled to China in 2011 to create a body of work for an Irish  ceramic pavilion in an international ceramic centre.
The trip made such a deep cultural impression on them that they decided to explore this journey through a new body of work which resulted in Bricks in the Rain.

This exhibition will tour to Cork in April so catch it while it's on in Dublin! It's well worth a visit!

Surface Decoration for Tiles!

Hello there, hope you're having a nice weekend. This week in my pottery class in the Donahies we'll be decorating the tiles we have made. Please see images from my studio of materials I use to make various marks, textures and patterns on clay. It can be very satisfying experimenting with different objects and hitting on a winner...so get collecting materials from the garden and home, textured lace, sturdy leaves with pronounced veins, stamps, plastic toys or pens (circles, dot patterns) and many other possibilities. Also I'll have the new pottery tool sets students have ordered, see you next week!
